Chrono Update v.CFE Pistol

With regards to my previous chrono session (9mm major Chrono results with Hodgdon CFE Pistol). Here’s an update. I went to chrono the rounds I made using CFE Pistol at 6.8gr of powder using a different type of Chronograph. The first session was using a Chrony but this session I was using a Competition Electronics chrono so the results are a little unexpected. I should really stick to just using one Chrono.

 

As you can see i’m using my typical 8.1gr HS-6 as a calibration round. this time the results were really low at average 1323fps, that puts me at 164pf which is under the power factor floor. The deviation is huge too which could mean that the rounds were loaded inconsistently. 

 

CFE pistol on the other hand, metered VERY well. the SD is only 6 and the 3 averages of 5 rounds is 1363, 1357 and 1351. Super consistent. I’m liking this powder already.

The average is 1357fps and with a 124gr projectile, that puts me at 168pf. 

I trust the Competition Electronics chrono more than the Chrony so I’ll bump it up to 7grs of CFE Pistol hoping to get around 170-171pf. The old result using the Chrony at 7grs gets me to 172.5. The Chrony is a little “exaggerated” in terms of fps so 7.0gr should put be at 170pf with the Competition Electronics chrono.

Just realized my sights were off!!

During my Chrono session, I discovered that my sights were off by 3″ to the left and 4″ high!! That explains a lot now. I realized something was a miss during the all steel stage at the recent Northwest Challenge when I took 10 shots to bring the steel plate down.

At the Chrono, the groups were all off so it was clear what was wrong.

That would explain why I’m tagging a lot of no shoots and tanking stages recently.

I’m not sure how that happened but I’m suspecting the crack in my cmore is contributing to the problem.

I’ve adjusted the sight now but haven’t tested it yet so I better find some time to get to the range again to try it.

First Ever Multigun Experience!

So this is my first time ever shooting multigun. It’s a blast to shoot three different kinds of guns on the clock. The stress of remembering to make my guns safe and the extensive plan is a lot higher than the traditional USPSA matches I’ve shot. I’m sure if you do it often you’ll get used to it just like anything. 

My Contour didn’t work very well today so I managed to get only two stages but you can see the massive failures at loading my guns, especially the shotgun. I only had like 15mins of practice a few months ago. 

I can see why it’s so interesting for the multi gunners but I think I’ll stick to my Open pistol for now. It’s a lot of work bringing three different sets of gear and ammo to a match.

Guess I can back it down to 6.6 or 6.8.

Trying out Rain X in my scope lens. Hopefully it’ll be more sweat, condensation and rain resistant. Not sure if it’ll work but it’s an experiment.

Hollywood Blockbusters – 2014 Northwest Challenge

The Northwest Challenge is a fabulous Level II USPSA match held by the Northwest Section at the Paul Bunyan Rifle Club in Puyallup, WA. It’s been a while since we had a match like this. Thanks to the hard work put in by Scott Pries and his group of volunteers, we got to shoot one of the most fun matches in a while. This year’s match theme is Hollywood Blockbusters.
