Finally got out of the house after the Snowmageddon hit the Seattle area the past two weeks. Lots of slush left which made things dicey but it was really good to get to shoot. We had the Northwest Section 2018 awards ceremony right after this match and I came home with 3rd place overall Open division and $50 🙂
Paul Bunyan Rifle Club ran their annual Toys-4-Tots charity match again this Sunday. It is an outlaw USPSA-styled match that raised $1,300 in cash for kids. Always great to be out shooting for a good cause.
Finally back shooting after a long break.
[excuses] I found out during the match that I don’t do well in cold rainy weather, my hands get all cold and beaten up. Got my thumb cut on something, left middle finger pinched during a reload, slide bite (for the first time) and thumb hit the racker.

Told myself going into this match to just do nothing but watch my dot. It worked. I managed to call all my shots, except for one weird call during a weak hand string at the non-classifier classifier (stage 7). I called a 3 alpha 1 charlie but when we looked at the targets, there were only 3 holes. ROs overlay-ed but couldn’t find a double, so I must have called it wrong. That said, I’m happy because I managed to do what I wanted to do and as a side effect, took the match win.

Headed down to Albany, Oregon to shoot the 2016 Columbia Cascades Sectional Level II match at the fabulous Albany Rifle Club. Managed to squeak in a 3rd place finish with lots of abruptness and hesitation in my shooting. Did not feel smooth at all except for one stage. I think my shooting platform is weak while moving, so I know what I’m going to work on for the next few weeks. That said, I thought my steel work was awesome! Thanks to Jemy for taking video of me from other angles.
Took me four stages into the day to get rid of Speed Mode and enable Match Mode. We started on Stage 4 and the first 4 stages had a mike each because I wasn’t looking at my dot on certain arrays. Had to learn how to re-enable match mode and trust that speed will come. It worked for the rest of the match and I luckily edged out a match win by 1 point.
Gotta get into the mode quicker next time.
What a fun and furiously fast match today. My total time for the entire match was 48 seconds! None of the stages were over 10 seconds. I still have match mode focus going which is great. Worked on transitioning and shooting faster which I did but had some extra shots here and there which should be eliminated. Just need to keep working on improving transition speed and shooting earlier.
I did wear my Mono Vision contact lens pair today and it worked well. It was a little disorienting in the beginning but it was great during shooting.
