I came in to this match with a mental objective. I used to be so affected by shooters around me, times and places in the standings that I didn’t get to shoot my game. I ended up shooting someone else’s game and that caused me to falter in my execution.
This time round I managed to keep it sound. I enabled “match mode”, and called my shots. If I had a bad stage, I mope and swear but leave it behind. If I had a good stage, I celebrate and laugh but leave it behind as well.
This allowed me to shoot my game and I’m very happy to be able to achieve 9th in Open. There were some stupid things I did but I knew exactly how I got them. I called all my mistakes and identified what caused them so I will not do it again.
It was a fun and fast match with lots of options. Thanks to the SLUSPSA guys for putting together this major match.
Shoutout to my squad mates, SQUAD 40, Super Squad… D.
Great stages! High round count (211rnds) and very tight and varied positions. It was a good match but I got my head working against me again. Need to find a way to shutdown the noise and play. This is one of the Northwest Series matches where we all earn points and get a chance to earn slots to the Nationals (plus some cash). Can’t wait for next one in Renton.
Area 1 2014 was a good Level III match put up by the Eastern Washington Practical Shooting Association at the Rattlesnake Mountain Shooting Facility in Benton City, WA.
There were 14 very technical stages that have very tight shots with lots of no-shoots to punish the hosers. I didn’t shoot very well in this match, one because I was very careful to avoid the penalties thus slowing down tremendously and 2nd, as you’ll see from the video, I had a few mistakes and one catastrophic gun failure when I couldn’t extract the brass because the rim was sheared off.
That said, match was still fun because of the company. Always fun shooting and hanging out with the regulars.
Thanks to all the organizers who set this match up and to the hard working Range Officers who ran over 354 shooters through 3 days.
Looking forward to my next major match.

Shot this fabulous Level 3 match in the Albany Rifle Range in Oregon. Excellent weather, great facilities, awesome stages. Piss poor performance unfortunately. I did pretty well until I decided to get myself kicked out of the match from a stupid mistake. Watch the video to find out what happened.
Thanks to Mike McCarter and his crew for setting up this fun match. Checkout the details of the match from their website : http://uspsa1.org/

How did my gun drop? Ejection Rod got caught under my band-aid and when I reached down to grab the moonclip, it tore the gun out of my hand. Like so.
Well, lessons learned.
