Here’s a deep dive / review / look into the USPSA Open Division race gun that I’ve been shooting for a year now. It’s built a decade ago by a local GM. I bought it used from a fellow shooter here in the PNW. Here’s the breakdown :
DAA Foldable Jet Wings
KIDD Blast Shield
38 Super Comp Ultimatch bull barrel
SV (Old STyle) Compensator
EGW Extractor, ejector & lockwork
SV Frame with stippled polymer grip
Infinity TriGlide widebody trigger bow
Infinity long flat trigger insert
Infinity round commander hammer
SPS magazine 170mm (w Grams guts & 4mm bolens) 29rnds
SV Magazine 170mm (w Grams guts & 3mm bolens) 29rnds
STI 140mm (w Grams guts & 7mm bolens) 22rnds
So the thumb rest didn’t really work for me and didn’t help with the on-table start scenarios and it so happens, on the same day, I found someone on BENOS forums that is selling a used Double Alpha Academy Foldable Jet Wings for a decent price and I snapped it up.
It came today and I started installing it.
Installation is simple, just remove the battery cover on the C-More sight, and screw the jet wings down. It is in a way a better alternative to the existing Serendipity C-more battery cover as the Jet Wings are made of aluminum and the c-more battery cover is plastic.
here’s how it looks like installed :
and folded on one side.
The Wings are held up by a magnet and it’s pretty sturdy when it’s held up like the picture above. The only gripe I have, is that when the wings are folded, it doesn’t really stay down. A slight jolt and the wings will “unfurl”. It’s not much of a problem, but it’s a little irritating to deal with, so I used some simple white tack to keep the wings securely folded.
Not a very aesthetic way of fixing the problem, but it works
Finally got the DAA Magnetic Magazine Pouch and now my USPSA Open Rig is complete.
Not sure what this is for? it’s for unloaded table starts. here’s Saul Kirsch on video explaining how you’d benefit from this :
Here’s my USPSA Revolver Rig that I’ve put together over the course of the past few months.
Here’s the gear :
- The Gun is a S&W 625 JM with modified Hogue grips,
- Double Alpha Academy Race Master holster (http://doublealpha.biz)
- James Austin Moonclip Server (firstname.lastname@example.org)
- California Competition Works “Shoot the Moon” holder (http://californiacompetitionworks.com)
Can’t wait to go shoot it at the next USPSA match!
Just ordered this in from Shooters Connection, a fantastic store run by competitive shooters. They are very patient and understand how eager we want our products when we’ve clicked on the PLACE ORDER button. Chuck & Mike from Shooters Connection did all they can to accommodate my special payment requirements and shipped the holster to me SUPER FAST.
It’s made by Double Alpha Academy and designed by Saul Kirsch. The Race Master Competition Holster is modular and you can buy additional “blocks” that allow you to use the same holster with other popular guns like STI, Glock, CZ, etc.
S&W 625 Revolver Block:
Took a while to customize it to fit my hand and draw position though, but once it’s in place, you can screw it all down and it’ll stay put.
